A useful tool should expand human judgment, not quietly become its replacement.
Automation can make work safer, quicker, and more accessible. It can also transfer attention, authority, and practice away from the people expected to take responsibility when a system fails.
The distinction matters. A society that uses tools well is not the same as a society that cannot name what it has stopped practicing.
The purpose of a countdown is not prophecy. It is a theatrical reminder to ask which human capacities we still intend to keep.
